Strengthening sustainable forest management hand in hand
Securing sustainable forest management is not an easy endeavor, and cannot be done alone. That’s why our mission is supported by our network of partners. From paper towels to notebooks, toys, and pieces of furniture – every product made of wood can be PEFC-certified. Our more than 2.000 certified partner companies in Germany place great value on that. With our certification, they can be sure their products originate from sustainably managed forests. This means customers can buy them with a good conscience.
Do you want to know what makes us happy? Thanks to special support from some of our partners, we were able to implement our “Find your roots” campaign to raise awareness for sustainable forest management. You can get to know these partners as well:
The family business Decker produces individual high-quality furniture made of solid timber in Borgentreich/NRW. Founded in 1915 as a basket making company, the Decker-roots can still be found in handicraft, natural materials, a sustainable orientation, a high vertical range of manufacture, the profound apprenticeship of employees as well as the regional proximity. As a deeply rooted company with special awareness on the origin of the processed wood, coming from PEFC-certified forests, the “find your roots”-campaign topic is predestined for a partnership with Decker.
Sustainability is an important topic for folia®. Lots of products the company produces are certified and match highest quality standards, like the PEFC-criteria for sustainable forest cultivation. The campaign topics “origin” and “roots” are especially interesting for folia® since the company thinks in generations and – first and foremost – long-term. That’s why being part of the PEFC-campaign for folia® is a logical consequence of their daily work.
proFagus is the only company producing barbecue charcoal made from beech wood in a so called “retorten”-procedure. For more than 120 years wood is being carbonized in the idyllic Bodenfelde in Weserbergland. For the company it’s important to know their roots – that’s why the beech wood that is used for the charcoal comes from PEFC-certified forests in the region which is known for their beautiful nature. proFagus goes very easy on resources, using more than 99,9% of the beech wood. Since byproducts are processed further, only around 0,06% of process-related waste emerges. Of course, this waste is being disposed of environmentally appropriate. The knowledge about the own roots and their effects on life is very important for proFagus. Due to this the company combines the two strong campaigns “find your roots” and “Root Camp”: Besides the knowledge about the roots proFagus wants to put down new roots as well.
The international acting company WestRock uses wood from sustainably managed and PEFC-certified forests for the production of its paperboard grades. Accordingly WestRock has a huge interest in preserving those forests for future generations and hereby protect the availability of the renewable timber resources. Marketing manager EMEA from WestRock, Regina Knoll, explains their support in the PEFC-campaign as following: “For our packaging as well as our whole branch the preservation of our domestic forests is essential. In being mindful of the procurement of sustainable cultivated wood, we can contribute to the protection of our ecosystem. And by the PEFC-sign we can hand over this good feeling to our customers.”
